The Greater Racine Initiative For Healthy Families unanimously selected the Racine/Kenosha Birthing Project (RKBP) as the Racine evidence-based project to receive the $10,000 early implementation grant for Racine. The RKBP is operated by the Professional Women’s Network for Service, Inc (a Racine-Kenosha based 501c3) that has a community advisory board and academic partners. This program is in its second year of operation and needs these resources to continue and expand.

The Birthing Project focuses on the health and well-being of pregnant mothers and their children in Racine and Kenosha.  The project utilizes the strengths of the community to create an environment where pregnant women feel confident and empowered to seek assistance and prenatal care early in their pregnancy as one way of improving birth outcomes within this high risk group.

There is a non-medical focus that allows women who are passionate about reducing infant mortality to participate in an intervention that emphasizes advocacy.
